Policies
Editorial Policy
Our purpose is to help readers make informed decisions with clear criteria and appropriate caution.
Topic selection
Editors choose topics based on usefulness, reader questions, seasonal relevance and the potential cost of a poor decision. Commercial availability may influence what can be linked, but it does not define our basic evaluation criteria.
Evidence and attribution
We prefer primary sources such as official specifications, government guidance, recognized standards, licensing bodies and direct written scope. We distinguish hands-on observations from category research and do not imply testing that did not occur.
Reviews and recommendations
Recommendations consider fit for a defined use, safety information, maintenance, compatibility, ownership cost and meaningful limitations. “Best” is not universal; we aim to explain who an option may or may not suit.
Commercial separation
Advertisers and affiliate partners do not receive a right to approve independent editorial conclusions. Sponsored content is labeled. Affiliate availability can change without a rewrite of the underlying advice.
Corrections and updates
We correct material errors and update pages when important facts change. Send correction requests to help@americanhomeownerjournal.com with the URL and supporting source.
